How do I find and save a message in Channels?

Use Search messages to search conversations you can access, and Save for later to keep a personal reference to a message. Saving does not create a separate copy or preserve access after conversation permissions change.

  1. Select Search messages in Channels for Mac.
  2. Enter a word or phrase in Search Channels.
  3. Select View all results, then open the intended result in its conversation.
  4. Check the conversation, author, and date. Use Load more results when available.

Add these filters to the search text when needed:

  • in:general: The visible channel named general; substitute your channel name.
  • from:me: Your own messages.
  • from:"Full Name": A person with that exact, unambiguous display name.
  • on:2026-10-01: Messages within that local calendar day.
  • before:2026-10-01: Messages before the start of that local date.
  • after:2026-10-01: Messages after the start of that local date.
  • is:pinned: Pinned messages.

Use each filter type once. Use on: for one day, or before: and after: for a range. Close any quotation marks and use real dates in YYYY-MM-DD form. If a name is ambiguous or no longer visible, remove that filter and narrow the search with other details.

To save a message, select Save for later on it, then open Saved and confirm it appears. To remove the reference, select Remove in Saved. This leaves the original message in the conversation.

If expected results are missing, confirm the Account and remove filters before retrying. Search does not bypass private-conversation access. A deleted message or one you can no longer access will not remain available merely because you saved it.
