# How do I update Channels for Mac?

Use the installed Mac app's update controls to check for an update and restart when it is ready. A downloaded update is not installed until the app restarts. Preserve unsent work before restarting.

1. Open **Socra Channels → Check for Updates…** in the macOS menu bar.
2. Review the status. Select **Check for updates** if a check has not started.
3. Wait for any download to finish.
4. When the update is ready, select **Restart now**. Choose **Later** if you need to continue before restarting.
5. After Channels reopens, check the update status again and confirm the version shown.

If checking or downloading reports an error, keep its exact text and retry with **Check for updates**. If installation fails and the update remains ready, select **Restart now** again. A failed download does not mean the new version was installed. The installed app remains available when the update cannot complete.

Do not delete app data as a shortcut for an update problem; it may contain unsent work waiting to sync. If checking or restarting repeatedly fails, contact [Socra support](https://support.socra.com) with the app version, macOS version, update state, and error text. Keep credentials and private conversations out of the report.
