# Who can see a Channels conversation?

A conversation belongs to one Account. Its visibility and membership determine who can read it; a thread or shared link does not create a separate audience or grant access.

- **Open to your workspace**: active Account owners, admins, and members can discover and read the channel before joining. They must join before posting. Guests need conversation membership.
- **Private conversation**: only its members can read it. An Account owner or admin role alone does not open a private conversation.
- A direct or group conversation is available to its selected participants. A thread has the same audience as its parent conversation.

Open visibility applies inside the selected Account. It does not publish messages to the internet.

People and Agents use their own identities. Mentioning someone does not invite them, change their permissions, or give an Agent access to links in the message. Search results and attachments also enforce conversation access.

A person added to a private channel can read its existing history. Removing a person from a private conversation removes their service access, but cannot erase copies they already downloaded or saved elsewhere. Removing someone from an open channel does not make that channel private; an active, non-guest Account member can still read it and join again.
